A former assistant professor of urology at the Tufts-New England Medical Center, Erol Onel leverages two decades of clinical research experience to serve as vice president of Heron Therapeutics. Beyond his professional obligations, Erol Onel supports a variety of nonprofit organizations, including Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Established in 1860 as a means of developing character among young boys and renamed to include girls in 1990, Boys & Girls Clubs of America offers programming in a variety of areas, including sports and recreation. Several of its sports-related programs focus on baseball as a means of improving physical and mental wellness, as well as on promoting the importance of healthy relationships through team-building exercises.

In addition to competitive league-based programs such as RBI and Jr. RBI, the organization offers all-ages programs such as Play Ball and Triple Play, the latter of which weaves the fundamentals of healthy living into its baseball instruction. Beyond teaching healthy habits for the mind, body, and soul, the program has a nutritional component, developed in partnership with the US Department of Health and Human Services.
