Since April 2016, Dr. Erol Onel has served as vice president at Heron Therapeutics in La Jolla, California. In this position, he provides scientific leadership to the company’s pain franchise. Outside of work, Erol Onel contributes to the community through charitable causes like the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that serves veterans and service members who were injured on or after September 11, 2011.

Recently, Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) partnered with the A.D. Farrow Harley-Davidson in Ohio to give veterans who have been wounded a way to connect with other warriors through motorcycle riding courses. The program provided the participants with a renewed sense of community, a way to challenge themselves, and an outlet that could help them cope with stress.

For two days, veterans learned about Harley-Davidson motorcycles and related equipment. Many received personalized training and were able to focus on their own specific requirements during the classes. Instructors also gave them endorsements, which allowed them to apply for motorcycle driving licenses, without taking the state exam.
